At some point in our lives we all go through sadness, loss, pain, illness, among many things. The feelings are affected and it is normal to live it. As parents we often do not know how we can handle and / or provide tools to our children so that they can somehow manage their emotions. What can we do?

  • First of all, pray! – I think praying is the first thing we must do. Ask God for help, wisdom and strength! We trust and rely in God’s care and provision to every need we have. And helping our kids with the emotions is one of them.
  • Second, get yourself some information and knowledge based in the Word of God. If you look closer and deep, the bible tons of help for the parents. Take a look at the book of Proverbs!
  • Third, listen and listen again! – Make yourself available to listen and pay attention to words and body language of your kids. Sometimes, they can express something and demonstrate other thing with their behavior. Pay attention!
  • Fourth, love and love! – Give them gestures of love, even when it’s hard to understand their emotions. Being present, providing a hug, give them security! Give words of affirmation always!
  • If your kids are older (8, 10, 12 or older) talk with them about your own experiences with your emotions and how you deal with your emotions in different settings. Perhaps, they feel identified and this helps them with their own emotions.
  • Don’t let them deny or avoid their emotions. Provide a space for ventilation. May they feel safe talking to you. Give them confidence and do not share what they tell you with other people who are not from the same family nucleus.
  • For toddlers and preschoolers, let them come to you in every need! – Pay all your attention to them. If they come crying to you, expect them with arms wide open. They come to you because they feel safe and secure with mom and dad! – Get yourself some tools like books of different topics (this have help me a lot) to explain to them according to their age.

As parents we must be available to our children and promote emotional health. Guide them using faith and the Word of God as a basis at all times. Have you implemented any of these tips with your children? How did it go?

But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear].

Here I share 4 books on fiction and faith! It is a great series called “The Incredible Worlds of Wally McDoogle”. Maybe, you have heard about it or maybe not. I’m sharing a little review here. This series is about a seventh grade thirteen-year-old named Wally McDoogle, who loves to write on his computer different stories. Each book includes a super fun and faith focused story.

Bill Myers’s beloved children’s book series is back, and updated for a new generation of young readers. In addition to updated pop culture references and an easy-to-read typesetting, these new editions bring Wally to life with illustrations throughout the text.
The Wally McDoogle series is full of hilarious hijinks and outrageous adventures. In between the laughter, readers will learn essential lessons about friendship, pride, and faith – and the importance of trusting God with it all.

What I like about each book is that it inspires children to trust God, to share about Jesus, among other faith topics that are so important today. To give children these resources in their hands is to provide them with an injection of faith.

The Bible teaches us that kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit. Teaching kids kindness is important from an early age. But how can we do it? Here I share with you a few tips on how we can teach our kids the acts of kindness.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (Galatians 5:22)

The dictionary of Bible Themes says about kindness the following: The quality of compassion and generosity, characteristic of God’s dealings towards the weak and poor, and demanded of believers. The kindness is also shown in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.

In the Bible we have the best example that we can use to illustrate and teach our children about this topic. JESUS! – If we speak about compassion, generosity and kindness we are speaking about Him, and how God (our Father) made a great act of love and kindness with us through Jesus.

The first thing to say here is focus your teaching on Jesus. And you will be giving your children a solid foundation in kindness.

You can teach your kids with the following:

  • Being yourself the example of kindness with themselves. Teaching values begins at home and it is important that we are willing to not only talk to them about kindness, but willing to model it through our actions.
  • When we do acts of kindness it is important not to draw attention to ourselves. Children must learn that these acts are born from love and in the heart.
  • An idea to practice it may be choosing a day to perform acts of kindness with family members. And then, do it with the neighbors and so on.
    • Write a letter of encouragement.
    • Set the table for dinner.
    • Help with cleaning the dishes.
    • Help your neighbor to clean the yard.

Encourage your children to be kind to everyone regardless of differences (race, color). It is very important to teach these things from an early age because today we see a great need for healthy and loving adults in society. When your children do these acts of kindness, give them affirmation words that positively reinforce what they have done.

Finally, pray together as a family and ask God that you can always do acts of kindness and that each act is to give glory to Him. Have you had the opportunity to do this with your children? If not, would you like to start now? Comment below!

Focus your teaching on Jesus. And you will be giving your children a solid foundation in kindness. #faith #teach #kids #howto
